  Agriculture Science Teacher at Midd-West High School

Qualification Necessary:
  • Active PA State Agriculture Education Certification
Basic Function: The teacher shall be responsible for the teaching of agricultural science content and skills as to promote student learning and to contribute to student development as mature responsible individuals. The teacher shall be directly responsible to the Principal of the building to which s/he is assigned.

Principal Activities:
  • Instructional: The Teacher shall:
    • meet and instruct assigned classes
    • create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
    • prepare for class assignments, showing written evidence of such preparation in accordance with directions of immediate supervisor
    • encourage students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior
    • establish clear objectives for all lessons and communicate those objectives to students
    • employ a variety of instructional techniques
    • appropriately assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis
    • provide students and parents with regular progress reports using established district procedures
    • explain the grading system to be used to students and parents
    • take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
    • be available to students and parents for conferences
  • Curriculum: The Teacher shall:
    • assist the Department Coordinator, Subject Area Coordinator, and/or Principal in the implementation of goals and objectives for the school district as formulated by the appropriate curriculum development committees
    • Establish goals and objectivs for each class
    • Assist the Assistant Superintendent, Department or Subject Area Coordinator, and Principal in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum
    • be aware of new developments in agricultural science education programs
    • implement the approved program of study
  • Public Relations: The Teacher shall:
    • help to interpret the school programs to parents and community
    • be willing to speak at public meetings to explain and interpret the school program
    • meet with parents to discuss student progress, problems, and outstanding accomplishments
    • take part in community civic affairs
  • Pupils: The Teacher shall:
    • be responsible for the existence of a safe and healthy learning environment, particularly with regard to student discipline
    • provide the Principal with recommendations for student grouping where appropriate
    • monitor pupil progress and adjust pupil programs when necessary
    • conduct parent conferences
    • make recommendations concerning placement of students
    • be responsible for all classroom discipline
    • maintain appropriate pupil records
    • secure proper permission for and make arrangements for field trips as appropriate
  • Administrative Routine: The Teacher shall:
    • oversee and/or participate in management of school farm
    • maintain an accurate inventory of all equipment, books, and materials
    • attend faculty meetings unless specifically excused by the Principal
    • keep a record of all textbooks, supplies, and equipment distributed
    • prepare budget requests
  • Primary Relationships: The Teacher shall:
    • The Teacher shall be directly responsible to the Principal of the assigned building
    • The Teacher shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Principal in all areas directly supervised by the Assistant Principal
    • The Teacher, under the supervision of the Principal, shall work cooperatively with all other district and building teachers in those areas pertaining to those other teachers' areas of responsibility
    • The Teacher, under the supervision of the Principal, shall work cooperatively with all other district and building-level adminstrative staff in those areas that pertain to the other administrators' areas of responsiblility
    • The Teacher shall continually strive toward a relationship with the community that is conducive to the effective implementation of all District programs and services and to represent the District to the public in a pleasant, positive fashion
