Job Summary:

The Agronomy Technician supports agronomic research and field operations by performing a variety of technical tasks related to soil management, crop production, and pest management. This role involves working closely with agronomists and other agricultural professionals to collect data, monitor crop health, and implement best practices in agronomy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Monitoring and Data Collection:

    • Conduct field visits to monitor crop health, soil conditions, and pest activity.
    • Collect and record data on crop growth, yield, and environmental conditions.
    • Assist in the implementation of field trials and experiments.
  • Soil and Plant Analysis:

    • Collect soil and plant samples for laboratory analysis.
    • Perform basic soil tests and interpret results to assist in soil management decisions.
    • Monitor soil fertility and recommend amendments as needed.
  • Pest and Disease Management:

    • Identify and assess pest and disease issues in crops.
    • Assist in the application of pesticides and other treatments, following safety protocols.
    • Provide recommendations for integrated pest management strategies.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

    • Operate and maintain field equipment such as tractors, sprayers, and soil testers.
    • Ensure equipment is in good working condition and perform routine maintenance.
  • Data Management and Reporting:

    • Enter and manage data related to field trials, soil tests, and crop performance.
    • Prepare reports and summaries of findings for review by agronomists or management.
  • Collaboration and Support:

    • Work closely with agronomists, researchers, and farm managers to achieve project goals.
    • Provide technical support and advice based on field observations and data.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a similar role or in agricultural fieldwork is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of crop management practices and soil science.
    • Proficiency in operating agricultural equipment.
    • Strong data collection and analysis skills.
    • Ability to identify pests, diseases, and soil issues.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and samples as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Fieldwork involves outdoor activities, occasional travel to different sites, and exposure to various environmental conditions.
  • Office work involves data entry and report preparation.
