Job Summary:
The Bison Ranch Foreman is responsible for day to day management of the Bison Ranch, care and well-being of the bison.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director for 1994 Tribal College & Universities (TCUs) Land Grant programs, the Bison Ranch Foreman will be responsible for the following duties:

Identification of bison to be harvested, carrying out harvesting and maintaining a record of harvested animals.

Negotiating bison product sales and delivery of products.

Maintaining record of bison meat used and given away.

Maintaining records pertaining to bison hides, skulls, etc.

Managing the budget of the Bison Ranch.

Organizing and presenting workshops on care of bison, bison ranch management and cultural use of bison.

Identifying and pursuing additional funding sources.

Recommend a plan for land acquisition needs for maintenance and expansion of the bison on a yearly basis.

Develop programs and projects in partnership with other tribal, state, federal and private agencies pursuing the same objectives as the reservation.

Will require working with tribal colleges located in ND, SD and NE and some travel is required.

Able to establish and coordinate a local advisory board made up of tribal elders, natural resource managers and professionals; spiritual leaders, educators and other community members as related to the stewardship of bison.

A commitment to developing a culturally based, bison-related curriculum that will be both adaptable and sustainable for the long term.

Provide leadership to new campus development.

Other duties as assigned in the performance of his/her responsibilities and as mutually agreed upon to the benefit of Sinte Gleska University.
Qualifications & Experience:

4 year degree in natural resources or agriculture related field preferred. Appropriate experience can be substituted for a four (4) year degree.

Must possess knowledge of the cultural significance of the bison to the Lakota people, the spiritual practices in harvesting and caring for the bison and use of all the parts of the bison in ceremonies and traditional arts.

Knowledge of Lakota culture, especially as related to bison.

Knowledge of tribal and communityinfrastructure,especiallyasrelatedtoLandManagement.

Public speaking skills and organizational skills necessary.

Must be able to work with a wide variety of individuals in the community.

Requires grant writing skills and computer literacy.
