Ranch Hand - Camp Shady Brook (Summer)

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Camp Shady Brook is looking for a Ranch Hand to assist the Equestrian Coordinator and Assistant Equestrian Coordinator to ensure a safe, functional, attractive, and well-maintained equine facility. The Ranch Hand is responsible for maintaining the overall equine facility and assisting in providing an environment that promotes the health and happiness of camp horses as well as proper care and maintenance of stables and tack.

- Manage a safe and positive riding/ranch experience for campers and staff.
- Regularly inspect and maintain ranch equipment and facilities to insure a safe and functional experience.
- Clean and provide repairs to stalls, pasture, arena, and all other aspects of the equine facility.
- Feed, water, and care for horses to insure the health of the herd.
- Immediately report any safety, health, equipment, maintenance, or horse problems to the Associate Executive Director upon discovery.
- Maintain inventory of necessary equipment/supplies and inform the Associate Executive Director of needed supplies in a timely fashion.
- Coordinate with outfitter, farrier and vet(s) as needed.
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
- Play an active role in all camp activities.
- May be called upon to live with a cabin group or to assist counselors with a cabin group.
- Will work stay over weekends as assigned.
- Evaluate current season, make suggestions, and create an End-of-Season report
- To perform all other duties as needed or assigned. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required
- At least 17 years of age, with former equestrian experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- CHA or other equivalent certification preferred
- Prior experience with youth or family programming
