The Wrangler I is responsible for the daily care, handling, and training of horses, as well as basic maintenance of facilities and equipment within the farm environment. This role supports public-facing events, ensures the health and safety of the animals, and assists with team driving and horsemanship training. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong foundation in horse care, barn management, and teamwork in a physically demanding, safety-conscious agricultural setting.

 

Essential Functions:

·         Daily horse care including grooming, feeding, saddling, harnessing, and monitoring health.

·         Identify and report health issues (e.g., wounds, lameness, illness).

·         Assist others drive horse teams and train until proficient.

·         Maintain and repair tack and riding equipment.

·         Operate farm equipment including telehandlers and other machinery after proper training.

·         Clean and maintain barn areas, including stalls, hitching areas, wash racks, and manure pits.

·         Perform general repairs to fencing, feeders, waterers, wagons, and farm facilities.

·         Support painting and maintenance of fences and structures.

·         Assist in preparation and participation in public events and parades.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

·         Basic horsemanship and barn management knowledge.

·         Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

·         Comfortable handling horses and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.

·         Understanding of equipment operation and maintenance.

·         Demonstrated ability to meet physical demands and maintain safety compliance.

·         Willingness to tolerate essential oils in the workplace.

 

Required Education and Experience:

·         A combination of education and experience may be considered.

·         3 to 12 months of hands-on horse care experience.

·         Demonstrated basic understanding of horse health and barn operations.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

·         Horsemanship courses or exposure.

·         Prior experience with event participation and public engagement.

·         Familiarity with telehandler operation upon hire.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment:

This job operates in an agricultural setting. The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to machinery. Exposure to various outdoor elements such as dust, animals, and plants is common.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. The regular schedule is typically based on seasonal demands and may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Employees are also expected to work at least one non-convention farm event a year and to work at the annual company convention.

Exact hour requirements can be reasonably modified as necessary for the business needs by the employee’s manager.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move items up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
