Job Summary:

Field Technicians collect samples in the field (plant tissue, soil, and water) and taking those samples to the appropriate location for processing. Perform Irrigation Monitoring Services.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Level I

  • Customer service – communication with co-workers and clients.
  • Complete legible and accurate field sheets so they can be processed accurately by the lab.
  • Collect plant tissue samples using appropriate sampling methods and sample containers.
  • Collect soil samples using an auger or push probe.
  • Collect of water samples using appropriate water sample bottles
  • Collect samples in accordance with Dellavalle Laboratory procedures.
  • Observe and report any unusual field conditions to appropriate project supervisor or agronomist.
  • In the event of any mechanical issues with your vehicle or delay in duties, immediately notify your supervisor.
  • Inventory and submit requests for supplies applicable to task(s) as needed.
  • Complete a vehicle checklist weekly to ensure safe vehicle conditions and submit to Safety Manager.
  • Maintain all equipment, sampling tools, vehicles, etc. in good condition.
  • Additional training may be added specific to the tasks or functions the employee is specifically assigned to.
  • Attend outside training as necessary.
  • Completed or able to complete the APNGA Portable Nuclear Gauge Safety & U.S. DOT Hazmat Certification Class as deemed necessary by agronomist or supervisor.
  • May assist or cover duties typically performed by other Field Technicians.
  • Other duties as assigned and qualified for, as determined by management.

Level II

  • Same as level I duties.
  • Collect field data (field observations and soil moisture monitoring).

Capable of carrying on the duties associated with maintaining a regular neutron probe reading route including but not limited to weekly readings, proper installation of monitoring sites, routine maintenance of sites, proper use of equipment, communication of field observations to consultant, maintain up-to-date maps, and proper completion of paperwork associated with monitoring sites.  

  • Installation of other soil moisture monitoring equipment as needed.
  • Completed or able to complete the APNGA Portable Nuclear Gauge Safety & U.S. DOT Hazmat Certification Class within 90 days.

Level III

  • Same as level II duties.
  • Work as a point person for agricultural, environmental, and other special projects. Able to communicate effectively with project stakeholders. 
  • Able to interact with customers in a professional manner for sample coordination and logistics. 
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to train other Field Technicians in proper sampling techniques and paperwork responsibilities.

Lead

  • Same as level III duties.
  • Able to work in a full-time position. 
  • Fully responsible for managing and coordinating a team of at least 5 Field Technicians (Level I-III) ensuring proper training is completed, verify quality of work and adherence to Dellavalle’s policies.  
  • Capable of managing multiple large, multi-faceted agronomic and environmental projects. 
  • Oversee and verify that equipment maintenance intervals are adhered to for vehicles, neutron probes, and sampling equipment.
  • Moderate level skills in using Microsoft Office. 
  • Ensure completion of the vehicle maintenance sheets by all field technicians in department.

Position is Part Time Seasonal.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • This position may require overtime during our busy season and hours may fluctuate.
  • Valid CA driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to drive for 2-4 hours daily.
  • Driving a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement may be required for this position and will be subject to continued employment.
  • Must be able to read maps and identify cardinal directions.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work in a team, and also independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and supervisors.
  • Must enjoy working outdoors.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of field/weather conditions.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience is preferred but not required.
  • Background in Agriculture preferred but not required.

Health and Safety:

  • All employees are required to comply with safety procedures, see Dellavalle safety programs
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the task being performed.
  • Driving requirements from safety programs will apply if driving for the company.
