Description: The instructor shall provide instructional activities; including but not limited to: Instruct students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development in order to set realistic expectations; establish proper rapport and effectively communicate with parents; create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; guide the process towards the achievement of curricular goals; participate in professional development activities. Prepare and conduct lessons based on the objectives of the CTE Agriculture Science Program. The instructor shall direct the learning experiences of the students, including skill development, human relations, and 21st Century skills. The ability to integrate
technology into the classroom and the lab setting is critical to the learning experience of students. The instructor shall maintain contact with and build a positive relationship with industry professionals and the Garfield Heights school administration. Youth activities (FFA and character education) are an important part of the curriculum, and the instructor shall be expected to guide students in the program as the FFA adviser.

Essential Functions:
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans with the ability to modify them accordingly during the school year
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and development
- Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction
- Manage student behavior in the classroom
- Provide supervision for virtual or out of school field trips and on-site AG Science facilities
- Create a positive classroom environment for students to learn in
- Utilize school-approved curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students
- Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms
- Communicate and meet with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child
- Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning
- Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities, as needed
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues
- Perform other duties as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
- Support school, enforce school rules and policies
- Participate on building level teams and/or teacher based teams and/or district level "teams"
- Organize various subject specific programs within assigned building, e.g., AG programs / events
- Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as "team" teaching, semester projects, etc.
- Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon
- Serve as a role model for students
- Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Serve on committees and cocurricular activities as agreed upon
- Supervise student teachers
- Discipline students when necessary following the district PBIS model
- Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant or designee
About You:
- Appropriate state of Ohio teaching certifications/license (Including ODE Agriscience (005) Exam)
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to appropriately manage confidential information
- Able to supervise students of various ages in different school settings (gym, cafeteria, etc.)
- Training in varied instructional designs
- Skills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
- Knowledge in child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks
- Educational pedagogy
- Student/teacher professional relationship
- Technology skills eg. electronic grades, moodle
- Basic first aid
- Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
- Experience working within an urban environment

The Garfield Heights City Schools collaboratively and cooperatively serve students and families of the City of Garfield Heights. The Garfield Heights City School prides itself on providing a rigorous and comprehensive pre-k through 12th-grade educational curriculum that clearly focuses on student success through college and career readiness. To that end, Garfield Heights High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including AP English, AP Government, AP American History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Calculus, Honors Physical Science, and more. While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.
A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district’s show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A ‘Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels.
