Field Testing Agronomist  

This position supports and manages day-to-date operations of the research program in an assigned territory by working with regional site leads and stakeholders to plan, establish, maintain, and collect accurate agronomic data from corn, wheat, soybean, and cotton trials. 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the research program with respect to budgetary guidelines and expectations.   

  • Support the site ESH program as it applies to North American field testing and operations selection, preparation and maintenance of multiple field-testing sites 

  • Drive company vehicle to frequently haul loads in excess of 10,000 lbs; must participate in pre-trip inspections and use of log books 

  • Play a vital role in trial preparation including seed processing, packaging, shipping, protocol review, trial placement, and mapping/field design  

  • Maintain field trial sites as weed, insect, and disease-free; confidently identify key weeds, insects and disease problems and implement timely and accurate control measures.  

  • Use handheld electronic equipment and company proprietary software to collet notes on various agronomic traits (e.g. emergence, uniformity, flowering date, lodging, height, maturity, shattering resistance) in a timely manner throughout the growing season  

  • Harvest plots and collect samples for quality and statistical analysis; ensure harvest data is evaluated and relinquished in accordance with crop advancement deadlines to aid in product advancement decisions 

  • Develop, maintain, and implement the use of controlled SOP documents, QMS procedures, and investigative protocols.  

  • Comply with all company regulatory compliance guidelines for confined release and stewarded trial material  

  • Collaborate with other agronomic research specialists, site leads, and principle investigators to facilitate efficient trial planning and placement, sharing of ideas and techniques, and quick response to issues that may arise (e.g. weather or pests' affective trials)  

  • Work closely with plant breeders, principal investigators and agronomic research specialists to fully understand the multiple stages of crop development and the importance of each step involved and share experiences cross-functionally as needed.  

  • Participate in field selection, cooperator relations and learn research equipment operations and basic maintenance (all types), field maintenance  

  • Maintain accountability for business unit or project results through leadership and coordination across site strategy 

  • Prioritize and monitor projects to ensure completion within deadlines and budgets. 

  • Build partnerships and shares technical knowledge across sites, involved in industry working groups 

 

WHO YOU ARE 

  

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: 

  

Required Qualifications: 

  • PhD with coursework research experience. MS with minimum of 2 years' Agronomics experience. BS with minimum of 5 years 'Agronomics experience.

  • Valid driver’s license  

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs  

  • Ability to obtain pesticide applicator license (all sites this is desired except Hazelwood which is required)  

  • Ability to obtain UAV license (desired) for operating drones  

  • Ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons  

  • CDL license or ability to obtain (this will be required in some locations) 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with growing and/or managing cotton row crops 

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $75,547.20 - $113,320.80. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
