Job Summary
Regenerative Organic Agriculture The Evergreen State College seeks a faculty member with demonstrated expertise in science-based regenerative organic agriculture and in teaching, especially in a collaborative environment. We’re looking for someone with hands-on small farming, marketing, and business experience, as well as a colleague with an understanding of the practical, economic, cultural, and social contexts in which agriculture is embedded. They will have a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for teaching and learning in an interdisciplinary environment, as well as a demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching. We need someone who can teach the scientific foundations of agriculture, lead on-farm learning practicums, support applied student research endeavors, and provide institutional leadership for advancing the campus farm as a model for experimental and innovative regenerative agriculture practices. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach qualitative and quantitative research methods and with experience collaborating with statewide institutions/organizations and local farmers to promote sustainable agriculture and local food production, especially in the Pacific Northwest. We also prefer applicants who have had experience teaching and/or working with students from underrepresented populations. This teaching position is for Spring, Summer, and Fall quarters. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses using our on-campus organic farm as a living laboratory. Responsibilities include cultivating a diverse range of vegetables and fruits relevant to Pacific Northwest markets while integrating agroecological principles and exploring the development of a just and sustainable food system. This position involves planning and teaching The Practice of Organic Farming, an annual, sixteen-credit, full-time, team-taught, interdisciplinary program that runs from spring through summer and fall quarters. Under the guidance of faculty, farm manager and staff, students do most of the work to operate the College’s Organic Farm. The successful candidate will be expected to integrate academic topics in the classroom with field trips and hands-on farm workshops to help deepen students’ theoretical and practical understanding of agricultural, ecological, and economic concepts as they pertain to applied organic farming. Preference will be given to candidates with diverse field horticultural production knowledge and skills that span plant propagation, soil regeneration, novelty crop cultivation, greenhouse management, irrigation, season extension, IPM , harvest, food safety, and market preparation. Collaboration with the farm manager to provide a welcoming learning and teaching environment is critical. Over the past 40-years, the college has operated a five-acre organic farm located on our 1,000-acre forested campus that serves as a site for hands-on teaching and where students gain experience in small farm operations. When possible, our farm collaborates with and supports faculty and student research, plus we encourage research collaboration with local farmers on their farms. Supporting student internships on farms and with related organizations is also an important part of sustainable agriculture at the college. Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in an agricultural science with hands-on experience in areas such as agroecology, sustainable agriculture, horticulture, soil science, plant science, entomology (including beekeeping), and small animal husbandry. Hands-on experience in diversified, small-scale organic farming Understanding of the rules and regulations specific to organic farming alongside regenerative agriculture concepts and practices. Experience pertinent to agricultural business and marketing, particularly direct marketing and small farm planning. Understanding of the historical, economic, and social contexts of food and agriculture College-level teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in Animal Husbandry. Demonstrated experience cultivating diverse vegetables, small-fruits, tree fruits, nuts, and novelty crops. Experience making recommendations to optimize farm facilities, tools, and equipment for modern, diversified small farms. Farm experience in the Pacific Northwest. Ability to teach qualitative and quantitative research methods. College-level teaching experience in field Agriculture settings. Research experience in on-farm research trials. Experience in the use and maintenance of the various tools and equipment used on a farm. Experience teaching and/or working with students from underrepresented populations. Demonstrated strong interest in collaborating with statewide institutions/organizations and local farmers to promote sustainable agriculture and local food production in our region.
